The image given by the astronomical telescope is an inverted one. The inverting of the image is not very objectionable when one is looking at the heavenly bodies; but in a telescope to be used on objects on the surface of the earth, it is more convenient to have the image upright. This result is secured usually by putting two converging lenses, at proper distances, between the object glass and the eyepiece.
