do not waste your energy

Some of us lead fast-paced lives, or are constantly under tremendous pressure. It is important for those who live a life full of hustle and bustle and pollutants to offset that lifestyle by taking appropriate periods of rest.

When faced with a challenge, we humans respond to it with what's called a stress response. This is what we know as a "hit or run" policy. Your heart rate increases, your blood pressure increases, and your body releases hormones that get you moving. But when a person is constantly exposed to this response, the body is exposed to high blood sugar levels, its immunity becomes lower, its mental functions are negatively affected, and blood pressure rises excessively, among other things. When a person is exposed to high levels of stress, the body is simply unable to recover.

Professional athletes provide real-world examples of how to balance high-strain activity with rest. One study looked at the habits of the best tennis players.

Researchers wanting to find out what separates the tennis world's few from other players, they measured and analyzed a range of variables in their quest to find out what is different about high-performance athletes.

Among other things, they found that the best players had a much lower heart rate between scoring than their lower-performing peers.

But what does that mean? Well, it could mean many things, but my personal interpretation and insight is that these early players are much better able to "unplug" themselves when they don't need to be "played". And if you think about it, you will find that there is no need to run yourself all the time, and that if the player does it all the time, he will waste a lot of his energy.

There's no doubt that elite athletes are at their peak when they need to be, but they're also incredibly adept at conserving their energy during rest periods.

Whether you're an elite player or not, there's an important message for all of us: there are many times when we can and should "disengage" ourselves so we don't waste our energy, and in doing so we conserve our precious energy.

So, when can you take a break and save your energy? Are there times when you can separate yourself to allow your body and mind to regenerate and heal again? You should monitor all the times in your life in which you are under pressure, and meet these times with periods of rest, using relaxation techniques, for example, if they prove effective for you.
