the method usually employed to secure large capacity with Leyden jars is to connect the outer coatings of a number of jars to the earth or to one terminal of an electrical machine, and the inner coatings to the other terminal. In this way the surface is increased, and a greater quantity of electricity can be stored. The spark from such a battery is much thicker than one of the same length from a single jar.
