Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)/dyslexia
Key issues
It is anticipated that you will now:
■ have an understanding of what dyslexia is;
■ have begun to understand why certain programs are used to support learners with dyslexia;
■ be able to understand the types of difficulties learners with dyslexia may experience and thus prepare appropriate materials and interventions;
■ be aware of visual perceptual difficulties such as Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (SSS);
■ be able to recognize factors that may indicate a learner has SSS;
■ be able to adapt a classroom environment to enable a learner with SSS to access the curriculum more efficiently;
■ understand the different areas of learning that SSS can affect.
