In some Eastern traditions, the teacher or "man of wisdom" is referred to as the mentor or spiritual teacher. He is the person you can turn to for advice and evidence.
And if you have a spiritual mentor or mentor in your life - a coach, counselor, or even just a friend - how lucky you are, because it is really wonderful to have someone in your life to give you a helping hand. But what if there is no such person in your life? Or what if your mentor isn't there when you need him most?
What if you could become your own mentor?
Ask yourself, what would my mentor tell me? What would he advise me? If you knew someone—let's say that person's name was John—who always seemed to have the right answer or question right at the exact time you needed them, then you should ask yourself: What would Gene say to me? In this position?
And remember the helpful advice you gave others: We often feel comfortable guiding others even though we feel busy with our lives. Take a step back and look at the situation objectively. She may be the best person to advise you!
When you learn how to be self-sufficient, you will be able to build your self-esteem, and taking responsibility for your life which means that your successes will be attributed to you alone. The experience you have is just as important as the experience of others, and the faster you learn to trust yourself, the more positive you will feel about yourself and the greater your level of control over your life.
