Lessons from "Arbaeen" of Imam Hussein
9:22:12 2018-10-28 2828

The lessons we learn from significant occurrences throughout history are important to use in our lives.

These occurrences can sometimes change the way we live.

They are talked about everywhere: In media, on the pulpit and in conversations for centuries.

One of the greatest occurrences in the Islamic history is being commemorated right now.

It teaches humanity lessons that no other human or occurrence can teach.

The Day of Arbaeen left a legacy for us all to follow and learn from.

No matter where in the earth we are from and no matter what religion we follow, we can learn from this eternal event lessons in:

Equality

Right now is the probably the greatest example of equality. We see the pilgrims from all social classes, genders, ethnicities, races, walking to Imam Hussein. They are all walking side by side and showing their love and loyalty to Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

Helping Others

The mawakib of course. You see them insisting to help you with any of your needs. If you need a charger to charge your phone or need a foot massage because your feet are tired, then the volunteers at the mawakib will be more than happy to assist you.

Love and Loyalty

Can anyone tell me of a different event that carries this much love and loyalty towards one person? No one can because this is the only event in the world.

In Arbaeen, we witness those who participate in the walk not just from Najaf but take it even a step further and come from further distances while weeping and lamenting for Imam Hussein the whole way.

Altruism

Most volunteers have left everything behind to participate in Arbaeen and serve the pilgrims. They left their families, their jobs, their houses, they left it all. Why? Because to them Imam Hussein and the service to his pilgrims is more important.

Never Giving Up Hope

Everyone who’s done the walk know they have one goal and that is to reach and touch the holy shrine of Imam Hussein. It is a long journey to walk that long distance, however with the pilgrims’ determination and the hope to reaching the shrine, it all becomes reality.

This teaches us that we should never lose hope.

Caring for one another

In the walk, if you have a blister on your feet. You will find a volunteer there ready to put ointment or cream and give you a massage after. If your head hurts, all you have to do is tell a volunteer, he will hurry and get you an aspirin. When you need just about any type of care, a volunteer will be there.

Coexistence

Arbaeen embodies coexistence. In Arbaeen, you see people from other faiths walking because Imam Hussein is not only for Shias, he is for all humanity.

Now these are all lessons in Arbaeen and to top all of that off, the feeling of Arbaeen, the feeling of walking to Imam Hussein is a whole different story.
