Your life consists of many different aspects, do not focus too much on one aspect of your life, as you cannot be happy if that particular aspect is not stable. It makes you lose your focus, and kills your enjoyment of anything else.
Can you invest every dollar you have in the stocks of one company? Of course not. Every consult will advises you to diversify your investments. You should not put all your hopes in one company or even in one type of company, instead you should follow a diversified investment wisely, as one central investment cannot destroy your savings.
The same applies to the life you live, as you should diversify your hopes.
Do not pin all your hopes on getting a promotion, and end up destroying what could be a contented home life due to lack of advancement in the office.
Do not define your life based on having a good relationship with a family member, and end up feeling devastated by strained relationships.
You should base your hopes on the many things that are important to you, and allow yourself to benefit from the many things that contribute to your life, rather than letting yourself be destroyed by a single bump in the road.
In an experiment that asked people to discuss other people’s contentment with life, it turned out that people tended to rate happiness on an “average” scale, meaning that happiness was associated with people whose lives were positive in many ways that were important to them.
