Master the Skill of Fast and Comprehensible Reading
10:41:54 2025-06-08 2372

Most people read, but the skill of reading quickly and with comprehension is something many lack.
Your brain is capable of achieving this goal (fast reading), which saves time and might even help you grasp meaning better than slow, tedious reading. Here are some useful guidelines to help you develop this skill:

  • Grasp the general meaning—don’t focus on individual words:
It has been proven that slow reading, which focuses on understanding each word individually, is less beneficial—especially for students studying—compared to reading that relies on processing groups of words and capturing their intended meaning. This can be developed through practice. You can dedicate a short, specific amount of time to reading a lesson quickly, creating a bit of time pressure. With repetition, you’ll gradually develop the skill of speed reading.
  • Always pay attention to the beginning or introduction of the topic:
The beginning of any topic usually contains the main idea, followed by the supporting details. Understanding the beginning well can make it easier to grasp the entire topic.
  • Focus on words that carry significant meaning:
Words like "but", "will", "if", etc., often signal important shifts in meaning. It's important to pay special attention to these key words.
