What are the things that parents allow their children?
2:39:14 2023-08-23 1515

There is no typical child or appropriate age at which children should be required to do certain things. However, children must feel as they grow that they are trusted and responsible for themselves. This means that the parents should give the child some freedom. This may be difficult, but it is essential for building your child's social and emotional confidence. Parents should give the child some responsibility, but little by little.

Parents should never pass on their personal fears to their children. Children should know that they should take some things seriously, such as road hazards and strangers, but they should not be afraid to go out.

Remember that the following guide depends specifically on what your child can do.

At the age of four or five years

Send children somewhere not far away on a task they know they can do. They may be able to deliver a message to a neighbor. A child at this age should know how to use the phone and how to dial the emergency number. He also has to know which of the cases can be called emergency cases.

At the age of six or seven years

Teach the children to go to a store not far away to buy milk or papers. Teach them to do this gradually. First take them to the store and let them buy themselves. Before moving on to the next step, alert the store owner that you will send the child alone next time, and let the store owner participate in praising the child. Then send the child to the store while you wait for him in the car or somewhere outside the store. Always make sure that you are watching his flight and that he is not out of your sight.

At the age of seven or eight years

Children should learn to read the clock so they know when to come home after playing. It is important for them to learn to abide by such rules in order to be independent, but without forgetting that their parents are still the decision makers! They may be allowed to ride their bikes outside the house.

At the age of eight or nine years

Children at this age can estimate the speed of cars and the distance separating them from them, and they can be allowed to cross a main road. They may also be allowed to go to the local park with their friends. At this age they can estimate and anticipate the trajectory of moving objects like swings and are aware of the danger of talking to people they don't know (not only potential child kidnappers but also neighborhood slums and gangs of older boys). They can also be trusted to ride their bikes on their own around the block or to the store.
