There are four methods for addressing the child in order to ask him to do something or stop doing something. The child is still devoid of thinking about the consequences. He is stubborn against orders and may do things that raise the concerns and fears of the parents. In order for the child to respond to the parents’ speech, there are four methods:
The first method: The method of choice: Do not ask him for anything like a military command, such as saying to him: Go to your room to sleep in your bed. Rather, give him the choice: Do you sleep in your bed with your toy or should I tell you a story before you sleep?
The second method: Indirect speech: Indirect speech is better than direct speech. For example, do not tell the child, “Play with your little brother and do not hurt him,” but direct him indirectly as follows: “Draw for me two brothers playing together and they are happy.”
The third method: The positive interrogation method: which is interrogating the child about what he did at school, and it should be in an indirect way that suggests pressure, investigation, and accusation. For example, if you wanted to ask him: How did things go with him at school? Tell him: “I went to work and the work atmosphere was enjoyable, and how was the school atmosphere for you?”
Fourth method: Cartoon dialogue method: Take advantage of his sitting on the television to watch cartoons to open windows of dialogue with him about situations that you watch together. So that him watching cartoons will be positive, as he interacts and evaluates what he sees and hears.
