Some people, especially young people, ask: Why should I be patient until I get what I want?
No one doubts that patience requires sufficient psychological energy and self-control. Because the basic concept of patience is to force oneself to adhere to values while feeling the pain of internal and external pressures on the way to achieving goals and eliminating hardships.
Patience is linked to the factor of building oneself on values, without which it is not possible to build oneself at all. This is why the concept of patience has become entwined with religion. Because religion is based on a system of moral values, the head of which is patience!
On the authority of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq - peace be upon him - he said: “Patience is to faith what the head is to the body. If the head is gone, the body is gone. Likewise, if patience is gone, faith is gone.”
Therefore, modern man suffers from many psychological problems. Some consider that the issue of patience means a waste of time and the absence of successful planning, and it is also a call for retreat, subservience, and submission! So why is a person patient?
This is why some people resort to choosing methods to relieve their feelings of psychological or external pressure in their lives, such as resorting to drinking alcohol, taking drugs, or falling into the mire of instincts and satisfying them through immoral acts. Or addiction to browsing the smartphone and watching movies and other things as an outlet and escape from reality!
Some may choose to commit suicide!! This is the stage of great failure in accepting oneself or adapting to reality and life until one’s goals and desires are achieved or the crisis ends!
In order for a person to learn the faculty of patience; He must look at Allah’s work in the universe, how He - Glory be to Him - created the heavens and the earth in six days with the influence of His power and the greatness of His command - Glory be to Him - for this is a cognitive and moral lesson that life takes place according to the system of requirements and entitlement things can't happen with the push of a button or a swipe on Aladdin's lamp!
