You may have an idea but don’t have followers and audiences who share your belief in it, and a person often faces difficulty in overcoming people’s convictions, convincing them to his side, and winning them over to his vision.
In order for a person to win people over to his right ideas, opinions, and viewpoints, he must seek ways and methods from which he can start a dialogue with others. Because the idea, opinion, or point of view is right and good, in order for a person to convince people of it and win them over to it, he must rely on methods and rules for that, including:
First: Avoid arguing with the other party. The best way to resolve an argument is to avoid its causes, because victory in an argument is often an empty victory, because you will lose your good relationship with your interlocutor, and the relationship with him may become unpleasant.
Second: Respect the other person’s opinions, and avoid underestimating his point of view. The best approach is for his dialogue to be neutral, even if it seems to him that the speaker has made a mistake, or is certain of his mistake. It is best to say to him: With all due respect, I have a different opinion, and I may be wrong, so if I am wrong, please correct me. Let us examine and review the opinions.
Third: Acknowledging the mistake. If a person realizes that he is wrong, he should precede the other person in admitting his mistake, as accepting mistakes is evidence of self-exaltation and self-denial in the face of the truth.
Fourth: Adopting kindness and gentleness and abandoning anger, as it is not possible to convince anyone through coercive and violent methods. Hence, using kindness and gentleness with others is something that helps convince them of opinions and points of view.
Fifth: Stay away from points of disagreement. Do not start with others by mentioning points of disagreement, but rather by mentioning points of agreement.
Sixth: The best way to convince another person of certain opinions is to provide him with the opportunity to gradually reach those opinions on his own. So that he feels that the opinion he arrived at is his own and that the idea is his.
Seventh: If a person wants to change people’s character and convince them of his ideas and viewpoints, he must address the nobility and goodness in them.
