Evaluate What You Hear
10:56:59 2025-06-26 2449

It's not enough to be a good listener to grasp information and knowledge; your mind must also be present and evaluative of what you hear.

These are the most important aspects you should pay attention to while listening to be a good evaluator:

- You must differentiate between fact and opinion or belief. Not everything stated is a given!

- You must have your own judgment of what you hear, based on your prior knowledge of the topic.

- You must separate the specific situation of the conversation from the subject of the conversation, so as not to be influenced by personal motives.

- You must also separate the subject of the conversation from the speaker's presentation. A skilled, enthusiastic speaker may succeed in convincing the audience of an incorrect idea.

- You must strive during the conversation to search for meaning or significance, not just the meaning of words or phrases.
