According to Alexander Rudin, head of the Laboratory of Applied Infrared Spectroscopy at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the probability of the asteroid Apophis colliding with Earth within the next thousand years is very small.

In an interview with the newspaper "Izvestia", the scientist points out that the asteroids near the Earth are well known, and they number several hundred.

He says: “The asteroid Apophis is one of these asteroids. This asteroid is very large. Therefore, if such a collision actually occurred, its consequences could be catastrophic. But its path is well known, so the probability of it colliding with Earth within the next thousand years is very small.”

According to him, approximately every 100 years, a large meteorite collides with the Earth, such as the Chelyabinsk meteorite.

He adds: “But since humans live in compact communities, the resulting damage is usually minimal. Simply because these explosions, most likely, occur either in an uninhabited area, or somewhere over the ocean, etc. So, "I believe that the asteroid threat, of all the threats to humanity, is not so significant."

It is noteworthy that the Dean of the Faculty of Physics at Minin University in Nizhny Novgorod had previously announced that the collision of the asteroid Apophis, with a diameter of 340 meters, with Earth may lead to the end of the world.
