The results of the study published in the Independent newspaper revealed that anger may help you achieve your goals. It is often viewed as a negative emotion, but in reality it can be a powerful motivator for people to achieve difficult goals in their lives.

Lead author Heather Lynch, a professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Texas A&M University in the US, said: “People often believe that the state of happiness is an ideal state, and the majority of people consider the pursuit of happiness a major goal in life,” explaining that the view that feelings “Positivity as an ideal for mental health has been prominent in public narratives, but previous research suggests that a combination of emotions, including negative emotions such as anger, leads to the best outcomes.”

The researchers conducted experiments that included more than a thousand people, and analyzed survey data from more than 1,400 participants, in each experiment, and confirmed that anger improved people’s ability to achieve their goals, and also motivated people to reach their goals and achieve them repeatedly, especially in the situations in which they were. Goals are more difficult.

The study indicated that people often prefer to use positive emotions as tools more than negative ones and tend to see negative emotions as undesirable and unable to adapt.

The researchers said: “Our research adds to the growing evidence that a mix of positive and negative emotions enhances overall health, and that using negative emotions as tools can be particularly effective in some situations.”
